Hike 3 – Shevlin Park Loop

After working all day, I felt restless and had to get out on the trail, even if it meant night hiking. I grabbed a few things – camera, journal, headlamp – threw them into a daypack, and headed for Shevlin Park. 644 unspoiled acres in size, Shevlin Park is Bend’s largest park and is located just a few minutes west of town. It has three main trails, its longest is the Loop Trail. According to the official maps of the park, it’s 6 miles in length, but in reality, it’s more like 4.5. Hike 1 – Sisters Mirror Lake

So this is it… The first hike! I chose to start this 17-month-long project off with an overnight backpacking trip to Sisters Mirror Lake for a few reasons. One, I’ve been missing the Pacific Crest Trail, which I hiked on for a good part of 2011. Two, August is the best time of the year to explore the Sisters Wilderness, when everything is in bloom and nearly all the snow has melted.
